How has it become this ugly?

The political campaigns -- society -- public education -- PEOPLE are increasingly mean.

How interesting that all of the above coincide with the increasing strength of progressives in politics. Scary.

Well, look at your own posts. You refer to the Speaker as "inept" and "low", you call the Democrats "Dims". You - and many others - can't contain your contempt for those you disagree with.

I disagree with your theory that this increasing meanness coincides with the rise of progressive politics. Politics and society were plenty mean in the 90s when conservatism was ascendant. Politics are mean because we put too much power and too much faith and too much money in the hands of politicians - the stakes of politics are so high that of course it's going to get mean. - ddc

I think that politics has been getting more and more ugly b/c of what is at stake. Oops, no, that's why I am irrational about it. When it comes to the big guys, I think it's about power and money.

Now as to why I think society and people are increasingly scary, no one will agree with me and I would just offend so I'll keep it to myself. Suffice it to say that in my mind, progressives play a big role.
