Huckabee will be left out

I think it's going to be a down-to-the-wire Romney-Thompson v. Giuliani-McCain battle.

Romney is getting no traction but is widely viewed as extremely smart and a great businessman. He needs the conservatives Thompson would bring. Thompson needs cash and a partnership with Romney wouldn't chase away most of his supporters.

Giuliani will need McCain's popular support and their emphasis on foreign affairs would be credible and very desirable. Neither man is a conservative but supporters will view them as as unbeatable ticket.

Huckabee is desirable as a running mate only because he is quick with the quips, but that alone isn't enough.

The winner will face a Hillary-Obama ticket. Get the popcorn and beer ready.

So you mean Romney-Thompson as de facto running mates and Giulini-McCain as the same? That would be a very unusual arrangement during the primaries and I don't see any of the candidates actually "hooking up" like that at this point. Besides, as a Giuliani supporter, I'd rather see him run with John Edwards than John McCain.

I'm not at all convinced that Hillary will take Obama as her running mate. Or that he would take her. And if they are the Dem ticket, then I think that the GOP nominee will feel compelled to pick a minority to run with.

Unless McCain positively dies on the vine he'll never agree to run w/ Guiliani.

This year is so unusual I still think there will be some link-ups.

Hillary won't let Obama overshadow her and will choose Richardson. Why, I'm not sure. The man is a buffoon but he fits the minority angle.

The Republicans can't out diversity the Dims and I don't see them trying to. That "d" word has a horrible connotation among conservatives and alot of independents so they won't be hurt. The sight of pale white men could be portrayed as a sign of strength in times like these.

Tuesday's MI primary has made this interesting again -

I agree there will be no "hooking up" this early; these guys are going at it to the end.

Obama and Hillary will end up as a ticket only if the bitterness over the race issue doesn't die down.

I wouldn't venture a guess on the outcome of the SC primary on Saturday for any amount of money.

McCain and Huck are wounded puppies, but the veterans and evangelicals in SC might pick them up. Thompson is a loose cannon.
