I can't figure out where Thompson's campaign is headed. Mary Matalin is still there I think, but I'm not sure. What do you think?

I can tell you exactly where his campaign is headed: directly down the toilet. Which is exactly where it belongs.
I disagree. There is a place for him in the Republican campaign. He has fallen a bit in the polls but not precipitously.
What, pray tell, is his place? Huckabee has the social conservatives covered; Giuliani has the national security thing goin' on; McCain has nailed the big-government campaign-finance speech-regulation jig; Tancredo the Wing-Nut has ridden his one-trick pony - immigration - nearly to death; Romney's got the all-things-to-all-people (and slick hair) vote all tied up. I guess Thompson's place is the awww-shucks wing of the party.
He does seem to appeal to people who like his manner and now his pro-life record. The Natl. Right to Life folks love his voting record on abortion issues.
